Willen Lake — Easter Trail & Spring Activities

Willen Lake, Milton Keynes, MK15 0DS

Willen Lake is one of those places that works year-round, but Easter is when it properly wakes up. Pick up a free answer sheet from the Watersports Centre and tackle the buggy-friendly 2km Spring Trail — bunny and chick clues scattered throughout, a prize if you finish it correctly. The watersports season relaunches at Easter too, so kayaking, paddleboarding, sailing and canoeing are back for all abilities. Worth knowing: the Treetop Extreme high ropes course — 13-metre drop — is among the best in Buckinghamshire. On the north side, the Peace Pagoda is one of MK's most underrated spots for a quiet Easter morning walk.

Easter Egg Hunt at Milton Keynes Museum

McConnell Drive, Wolverton, Milton Keynes

While many heritage attractions lean strictly educational, MK Museum manages to be incredibly hands-on and fun. The Easter Egg Hunt runs across 1–6 April and 8–10 April, with young visitors searching for hidden eggs through the vintage vehicle collection and recreated Victorian high street. This year, two golden eggs are hidden somewhere on site — find one and you win a large chocolate Easter egg. Daily arts and crafts throughout, plus Easter cookie decorating from 3–6 April. Budget at least two to three hours; parents tend to get just as absorbed as the kids.

Free Easter Egg Hunt at Unity Place

Unity Place, Central Milton Keynes

Unity Place is doing a digital Easter Egg Hunt this year — clues on screens around the building, free chocolate at the end, no booking, no entry fee. It's exactly the kind of thing you want on a mid-week school holiday morning when you need something with a bit of structure but don't want to spend much. Giant games and a colouring station run throughout too. Separately, Unity Place is screening Peter Rabbit 2 for free on Tuesday 31 March at 11am — technically the week before the main holidays, but well worth knowing about if you're in the area.

Campbell Park — MK's Cultural Green Heart

Campbell Park Pavilion, 1300 Silbury Blvd, MK9 4AD

Long-term MK residents are sometimes surprised by how good Campbell Park actually is. It stretches from Central Milton Keynes all the way down to the Grand Union Canal, and the public sculptures and artworks dotted throughout turn a walk into something more interesting than a standard park visit. In spring, when the colour comes through and the light changes, it's hard to beat as a free hour out. The Parks Trust runs over 500 events here each year — check their site for anything Easter-specific — but an Easter Sunday morning walk followed by lunch nearby costs nothing at all.

Explore the Redways — MK's Famous Path Network

Across Milton Keynes — Start Anywhere

Over 200 miles of traffic-free paths winding between parks, lakes and green spaces, never once crossing a main road. Easter — when the blossom is out and it's finally worth being outside again — is one of the best times to explore it. The route between Willen Lake and Campbell Park is a solid family option, passing through several of MK's grid square parks along the way. Kids tend to love the freedom of cycling without traffic. Bike hire is available at various points across the city, and if you want something more ambitious, the Redways connect to the Grand Union Canal towpath heading south to Leighton Buzzard.

Easter Arts & Crafts Club at centre:mk

Centre:mk, Central Milton Keynes, MK9 3ES

By day five of the Easter holidays, most parents will understand why centre:mk's Arts and Crafts Club exists. Kids get creative with seasonal makes; adults get twenty minutes of relative quiet and a coffee. It's a win-win for everyone. Beyond the crafts, the centre itself is a reliable all-day option — John Lewis, M&S, a strong food offer, and a fully covered roof that matters more than it should in April. It's also the most sensible backup if you've paired the day with something outdoor and the weather turns. Check centremk.com for specific session dates before heading in.

Enigma Easter Running Series — Caldecotte Lake

Caldecotte Arms, Bletcham Way, MK7 8HP

Not everyone's Easter involves chocolate. The Enigma Easter Running Series runs across the Easter weekend at Caldecotte Lake. Events include a marathon, half marathon, and 50k on Friday and Saturday, followed by a more accessible 5k on Sunday. The events are well-run and welcoming in a way that sits somewhere between a parkrun and a proper race — competitive if you want it to be, manageable if you don't. One thing worth flagging: each event is capped at 50 entrants, so registration fills up. Even if running isn't your thing, the flat path around Caldecotte makes a decent Easter walk, and the Caldecotte Arms does a reliable bank holiday lunch.

Miss Saigon at Milton Keynes Theatre

500 Marlborough Gate, Central MK, MK9 3NZ

Miss Saigon is the kind of show that people who've seen it twice will still book again. It runs at MK Theatre from 7 to 11 April — the second week of the school holidays — and it's the standout evening out in the city this Easter. The staging is extraordinary, the score is one of the best in musical theatre, and the story — set against the Vietnam War — lingers. Age guidance is 14+, so it's best suited to older teenagers and adults. Tickets start from £65, which means this one rewards booking ahead. The theatre is in Central MK, a short walk from Campbell Park and a good range of restaurants for a pre-show dinner.
