Tips for Staying in MK
Understanding MK Parking
Unlike what many think, parking in Central MK is not free during the day. The city centre operates on a strictly enforced colour-coded grid. Premium Red bays are £2.50 for the first hour (£2.00/hr after), and Standard Purple bays are £2.00 for the first two hours (50p/hr after). Council charges apply daily from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Most central hotels charge separately for their private car parks, so always check ahead. However, all council parking bays are completely free after 6:00 PM!
Stay Central for Walking Distance
Central MK puts you within easy walking distance of the Milton Keynes Theatre, Xscape (Snozone), The Hub restaurants, and the Centre:MK shopping mall. If you stay on the outskirts or at Stadium MK, you will need to rely on a short taxi ride or drive to reach the city centre.
Arriving by Train?
Milton Keynes Central has fast, direct trains from London Euston that take just 30-35 minutes. Taxis and buses are readily available directly outside the station. Central hotels like Hotel La Tour, Leonardo, and Holiday Inn are just a very short ride (or a brisk walk) away.
Book Ahead for Event Weekends
Stadium MK and the Marshall Arena host major sporting events and concerts (alongside the National Bowl during summer). Hotel prices spike locally on event weekends. Check the MK events calendar and book early if you are visiting for a specific gig or match.
