The Stables Milton Keynes
One of England’s Most Respected Live Music Venues Since 1970
The Stables in Wavendon is one of Milton Keynes’ greatest cultural treasures — and one of the finest intimate live music venues in England. Set in beautifully converted stable buildings on the Wavendon Estate, The Stables has been bringing world-class jazz, folk, blues, soul, roots, and acoustic music to the MK area since 1970 — founded by the late jazz pianist and MK champion Cleo Laine and John Dankworth.
The combination of extraordinary artists, an intimate acoustic setting, and the unique character of the converted stable buildings makes every performance at The Stables feel genuinely special. It’s the kind of venue where you’re close enough to watch an artist’s fingers on the strings, and where the music fills the room without a wall of speakers.
For music lovers, this is MK’s most treasured venue — full stop.
What to Expect
The Programme
A year-round programme of jazz, folk, blues, acoustic, world music, soul, and roots artists of the highest calibre. Both established international names and the finest emerging artists from the UK and beyond feature regularly. The Stables consistently books artists that would fill much larger venues elsewhere.
The Setting
Converted stable buildings on the Wavendon Estate — intimate, characterful, and acoustically brilliant. The main auditorium holds several hundred people but feels personal and close wherever you sit. There’s a foyer bar, a warm welcome, and an atmosphere that feels like a music lover’s living room rather than a corporate venue.
The Bar & Café
A well-stocked bar and café in the venue foyer — open from doors onwards. Pre-show dining and drinks available. Worth arriving early to settle in before performances.
