New to Milton Keynes?
You're in the right place.
Almost everyone in MK came from somewhere else. This city has been growing since 1967 and it hasn't stopped. You won't be the only new face — not even close.
MK Takes a Little Time. But It's Worth It.
Milton Keynes can feel different at first. It's a city designed around green spaces and grid roads rather than a single traditional high street. There isn't just one place where everyone gathers, which can make it feel spread out.
But here's what people who live here will tell you: once you find your "thing"—whether it's a sports club, a faith group, or a local community project—you'll find that MK is one of the most welcoming cities in the country. Because so many people moved here from elsewhere, there's a real culture of "let's make this work together."

Family & Toddler Groups
Milton Keynes is incredibly family-friendly. Here’s how to tap into the local parent networks.

Sensory & Music Classes
MK has a highly active network of structured baby and toddler classes. National groups like Baby Sensory, Toddler Sense, Hartbeeps, and Music Bugs run weekly sessions across the city and are brilliant for making new parent friends.
Community "Stay & Plays"
Because of MK's grid system, almost every local estate has a community centre or church hosting affordable, volunteer-run weekly morning groups. You can find local schedules on directories like Happity. Expect toys, crafts, and plenty of tea.
Parent Support Networks
If you need a bit more structured support, groups like NCT Milton Keynes and Home-Start MK provide parent-to-parent assistance, social meetups, and guidance for navigating the challenges of early parenthood in a new city.
Making Sense of the City
🗺️ The Grid System
Horizontal roads are 'Ways' (H1, H2) and Vertical roads are 'Streets' (V1, V2). H roads run East-West; V roads run North-South. Once you get this, you'll never get lost.
🚗 Parking
Parking in Central MK is mostly paid (check the signs!). However, almost all local estate shops and many secondary parks remain free to park in.
🚄 London Access
Fast trains from MK Central get you to London Euston in just 35 minutes. It’s often faster to get to Central London from MK than from parts of Outer London!
🚲 The Redways
A unique network of over 200 miles of shared-use paths. They crisscross the entire city and run completely separate from road traffic, making them perfect for safe walking, running, and cycling.
