The May Bank Holiday is finally here! It’s that excellent time of the year when the alarm clock gets turned off, and your biggest worry is deciding what to do with a bonus day off.
Whether you live locally and know your way around every roundabout, or you’re just visiting for the weekend, MK has a massive lineup of actual events happening from Friday, May 1st to Monday, May 4th. If you’re stuck for ideas, we’ve put together a comprehensive guide to help you plan an amazing long weekend.
1. The Headline Events: What’s Actually On?
Forget just wandering around the shopping centre (though we love doing that too); there are some huge events taking place across the city this weekend. For a massive list of general activities, check out our Things to do in Milton Keynes page, but here is exactly what is happening this weekend:
- The Milton Keynes Gaming Market (Saturday, May 2nd): Head down to Middleton Hall in centre:mk. It’s the absolute perfect place to hunt for retro games, classic consoles, and cool merchandise.
- The Milton Keynes Brick Festival (Sunday, May 3rd): Also taking over Middleton Hall, this is a must-visit. Go marvel at insane custom LEGO displays, engage in speed-building competitions, and try to resist the urge to buy a 3,000-piece set you definitely don’t have shelf space for.
- Card Market Milton Keynes (Monday, May 4th): Rounding off the weekend at centre:mk, trading card fans can swap, buy, and sell their favourite collectibles.
- Fawlty Towers – The Play (Until Saturday, May 2nd): Catch the hilarious stage adaptation of the classic British sitcom at the Milton Keynes Theatre before it packs up!
- Live Music at The Stables: If you love live entertainment, The Stables in Wavendon has a packed weekend. Catch The Johnny Cash Roadshow on Friday (May 1st), incredible a cappella from The Sons of Pitches on Saturday (May 2nd), or The South on Sunday (May 3rd).
2. The MK Marathon Weekend (May 3rd – 4th)
You can’t talk about the Early May Bank Holiday in MK without talking about the Marathon. Even if your idea of a marathon is watching three movies back-to-back, the atmosphere is incredible.
- Sunday, May 3rd: The fast and furious Rocket 5K kicks things off.
- Monday, May 4th: The main events take place! Thousands of runners will tackle the Half Marathon, Full Marathon, and Marathon Relay.
- The Superhero Fun Run: Also on Monday morning, this is a brilliant family-friendly event.
- The Spectator Vibe: All the Monday events finish with an epic stadium finish inside Stadium MK. Head down, grab a snack, and cheer on the runners as they cross the finish line—it’s an amazing community vibe!
3. Step Back in Time
If you want to add a little history to your long weekend, Milton Keynes has you covered:
- Bletchley Park (All Weekend): Discover how the WW2 Codebreakers changed history! They are hosting special May Bank Holiday activities, including hands-on family challenges like crafting your own replica codebreaking hut or building a pneumatic messaging system.
4. Grab Something Delicious
A bank holiday is the perfect excuse to treat yourself to some amazing food. MK’s food scene is brilliant right now. You can browse all the Places to eat and drink in Milton Keynes, but here are a few standouts to get you started:
- Burger Fans: Check out the epic menu and incredible flavours at Smoke and Pepper.
