Primary Schools in Milton Keynes: 2026 Guide & Rankings

Milton Keynes is home to over 90 primary, infant, and junior schools. Because the city operates on a grid system, most estates have their own dedicated primary school (or an infant/junior split) right in the heart of the community, safely connected by the Redways.

Below is a breakdown of some of the highest-performing and most notable primary schools in MK, based on recent Ofsted data and local community feedback for the 2026 academic year.

🏫 The “All-Through” School Trend

In recent years, Milton Keynes has seen a rise in “All-Through” schools. These schools take children all the way from Reception (age 4) straight through to Year 11 (age 16) or even Sixth Form. This entirely eliminates the stress of applying for a secondary school place in Year 6!

  • Oakgrove School (Oakgrove): A highly popular all-through academy serving the eastern flank of MK.
  • Kents Hill Park School (Kents Hill): A modern, purpose-built all-through school with excellent new facilities.
  • Watling Academy (Whitehouse): MK’s newest mega-school, currently rapidly expanding its primary provision in the Western Expansion Area.

🧒 Infant vs. Junior Schools

While newer MK estates tend to build single “Primary” schools (Reception to Year 6), many of the older grid squares still split this into:

  • Infant Schools (Reception to Year 2)
  • Junior Schools (Year 3 to Year 6)

⚠️ CRITICAL REMINDER: If your child attends an Infant school, you must remember to apply for a Junior school place during Year 2. It is not an automatic transfer, even if the infant and junior schools share the exact same site!
