Willen Lake Milton Keynes
MK’s Most Popular Park — Free to Enter, Open All Year
Willen Lake is Milton Keynes’ most beloved outdoor space — 180 acres of landscaped parkland surrounding around 100 acres of water across two distinct lakes. Created in the 1970s as part of MK’s original masterplan, Willen Lake attracts over a million visits per year and offers one of the most diverse collections of outdoor activities of any free park in England.
Entry to the park is completely free. Car parking charges apply.
The Two Lakes — North & South
South Lake — Activities & Adventure
The South Lake is where the action is. Watersports, high ropes, splash park, play areas, outdoor gym equipment, café, and a full programme of activities on and off the water. This is the lake to head to for an active day out.
North Lake — Peace & Nature
The North Lake is quieter and more reflective in character. Home to the Peace Pagoda — the first Buddhist peace pagoda in the Western hemisphere — a Buddhist temple open to visitors, public sculptures, a bird hide, and peaceful walking paths through parkland and woodland. The complete circular loop of both lakes is approximately 5km — a beautiful free walk whatever the season.
Activities at Willen Lake

Tips from WhatsOnMK
💡 Sunrise at the South Lake is one of MK’s most beautiful free sights — worth setting the alarm for.
💡 The 5km lake loop covering both North and South lakes is one of the best free walks in MK — allow around 1–1.5 hours at a leisurely pace.
💡 Treetop Extreme — book ahead for weekend sessions, particularly during school holidays when it fills fast.
💡 The Peace Pagoda on the North Lake is one of MK’s most genuinely extraordinary landmarks — most residents have been to the South Lake dozens of times but never walked around the North Lake. Do both.
💡 Willen Wonders Card — if you visit regularly, the Willen Wonders Card gives 20% off activities and exclusive offers. Ask at the Watersports Centre.
