Things to Do This Half Term in Milton Keynes

If you’ve ever emptied your child’s piggy bank to visit a crowded local attraction, only to spend four hours dealing with a sensory meltdown because the music was too loud and the entry wristband was “too scratchy”… I have wonderful news for you.

Welcome to the ultimate survival guide for May Half-Term in Milton Keynes.

Keeping the kids entertained during the school holidays can sometimes feel like an extreme sport that requires you to haemorrhage money. That’s why we’ve teamed up to bring you the holy grail of parenting: a list of genuinely affordable, sensory-friendly, and downright brilliant Things to do in Milton Keynes.

I’ve had the absolute pleasure of collaborating on this piece with the brilliant mind behind Autistic Working Mum. As an Aspie, she completely revelled in the research phase, employing her glorious neurodivergent superpowers to organize these events by location and chronological order.

Whether you are an MK local or visiting for the week, here is your stress-free, budget-friendly, and SEND-inclusive itinerary for May!

📍 MK Gallery: Inclusive Art & Italian Plumbers

(900 Midsummer Blvd)

Kick off the weekend with some culture that won’t make your toddlers (or your bank account) cry. MK Gallery is hosting some fantastic, accessible events for their Euan Uglow: An Arc from the Eye exhibition:

  • Sensory Tour Kits (4th – 31st May): Collect your sensory trolley and explore the senses of the exhibition at your own pace. These kits are included with purchased exhibition tickets and are available from the front desk.
  • Toddle Exhibition Tour (Sat 23rd May, 10:00 am): Specifically designed for 0-5 year olds. Expect less “shh, don’t touch that” and more interactive exploration.
  • SEND Exhibition Tour (Sat 23rd May, 11:00 am): A relaxed, tailored tour for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. Because art is for everyone, and quiet spaces matter.
  • The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (23rd – 31st May): Grab the popcorn! Screenings run until the end of the month, with tickets ranging from completely FREE to £9. Wahoo!

📍 centre:mk: Beats, Rhymes & Spray Cans

(Middleton Hall)

Sunday 24th May, 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Ready to introduce your kids to some old-school flavour? The MK Hip Hop Festival is completely FREE to attend! It’s the perfect pit-stop while you’re braving the shops. There is something for all ages here: watch performances, let the older kids channel their inner Banksy at drop-in graffiti sessions, and don’t miss the adorable hip-hop and rhyme sessions for babies and tots.

📍 Milton Keynes Museum: Half-Term Heroes

(McConnell Drive)

Monday 25th to Friday 29th May

If you haven’t taken the kids to MK Museum yet, rectify that immediately. From Monday through to Friday, the wonderfully thoughtful folks over at the museum are running “Curious Creatures & Garden Treasures”. It’s packed with discovery, creativity, and outdoor exploration. It’s hands-on, deeply fascinating, and guaranteed to tire them out so they actually sleep at bedtime.

📍 Unity Place: Hakuna Matata for Your Wallet

(200 Grafton Gate)

Friday 29th May, 11:00 am

Unity Place has officially reached top-tier status in our books. They are hosting a FREE screening of The Lion King at 11 am.

But here is the absolute genius part: Unity Place knows that asking a neurodivergent child to sit perfectly still for two hours is like asking a cat to do algebra. So, they’ve set up large games and colouring stations to run concurrently with the screening! If your little one gets restless, they can just wander over to the games to regulate. Absolute parenting lifesaver.

🌟 The Hidden Gems: Milton Keynes Family Centres

Listen up, because this is one of MK’s best-kept secrets: Family Centres aren’t just for babies and toddlers. They cover older children as well! For ease, my wonderful collaborator has sourced the timetables for the local centres.
